PETALS
Integrative Holistic Wellbeing Framework
A relational, culturally responsive approach to holistic wellbeing
PETALS is Athena Mentors' Integrative Holistic Wellbeing Framework, for
bringing together psychological & therapeutic support, expression &
creativity, togetherness, awareness & reflection and lived experience.
It provides a flexible foundation for supporting the whole person, holistically.

Why PETALS?
People do not experience emotional wellbeing in isolation. How we think,
feel, relate and respond can be influenced by our relationships, experiences, identity, culture, environment and sense of belonging.
PETALS provides a framework through which these different aspects of experience can be recognised and explored without assuming that one approach will be appropriate for everyone.
It allows Athena Mentors to work flexibly while maintaining a consistent therapeutic foundation across our services, programmes and community work.
Different paths.
One purpose.

Therapeutically Informed Approach - Ethically Grounded
Our work is grounded in psychotherapy and guided by recognised ethical principles of counselling and psychotherapy practice.
However, the depth of therapeutic work is always tailored to the aims and objectives of each activity, workshop or programme.
This enables therapeutic knowledge and principles to inform our wider wellbeing work, while maintaining a clear distinction between counselling and psychotherapy and other therapeutic wellbeing activities.
Working In Partnership
YOU KNOW YOUR COMMUNITY
WE BRING THE THERAPEUTIC PERSPECTIVE
Organisations often have valuable knowledge and established relationships within the communities they support, bringing an understanding of local experiences, challenges, barriers and strengths.
Athena Mentors works alongside this existing knowledge, bringing a relational, culturally responsive and psychotherapeutically informed perspective that guides the way we listen, design, facilitate and respond.
Through PETALS, these perspectives can come together to provide a flexible foundation for collaborative working, allowing programmes to be shaped around the needs of the community, rather than requiring organisations to adopt a predetermined approach.

Who We Work With
Athena Mentors has a particular commitment to improving access to culturally responsive holistic wellbeing support for women,
children and young people from ethnic minority communities while ensuring our services remain inclusive and accessible to all.

Different Paths - One Purpose.
People arrive at wellbeing through different experiences, relationships and pathways.
PETALS allows Athena Mentors to recognise those differences while maintaining a consistent therapeutic foundation and supporting the whole person, rather than responding to only one aspect of their experience.

If you are developing a community wellbeing project, looking for a therapeutic delivery partner or exploring how PETALS could complement an existing programme, we welcome conversations about collaborative working.
